It’s a universal challenge to buy gifts for those “picky people”. In this case I’m referring to parents who are crunchy, health conscious and only allow high quality items into their baby’s sphere.
Kudos to those parents, but what in the world is approved for gifting their children?
First installment of several “natural and organic” gift guides it up, and this one offers 20 foolproof options for those natural and organic babies and toddlers. I am certain these will pass parents’ health qualifications and also please the kids.
All of the items here are items we personally own, and that have been a big hit! No more guessing what will qualify and wondering if your gift will be approved. All of these will be fantastic ideas.
1.Crayons. 2.Pacifier. 3.Cutlery. 4.Sippy Cup. 5.Rug. 6. Hat. 7.Towels. 8.Book. 9.Shoes.
These crayons are a wonderful idea for any artistic toddler! You don’t need to worry about them coloring on their skin or face. Crayons are a safe and fun toy even for a younger baby who hasn’t yet mastered what it means to color a picture.
Natursutten is the only pacifier I used for my baby. The typical pacifier on the market is made completely of plastic. It will also include treatments and softeners such as parabens, pthalates, etc. This is true whether it says “BPA-free” or not- its replacements are nearly identical chemical compounds, with emerging research indicating that the risks are the same or worse as BPA itself. All in all, plastic in the baby’s mouth is not something your natural parent is likely to allow! As such, a natural rubber pacifier such as these ones from a reputable European company, will be well-used and appreciated.
Another special quality about these is that they’re made of just one solid piece of rubber, making it easy to clean and sterilize without worrying about dirt or germs stuck in hard-to-clean places.
3. stainless steel cutlery set
Once baby starts eating solids around 6 months, it’s time to think about healthy materials to deliver that food to baby’s mouth! As always, plastic has probably been vetoed, leaving silicone or stainless steel. This classy, adorable little set comes in handy because it’s small enough for baby to grip herself and learn how to self-feed. It’s also just the right size to comfortably fit in baby’s mouth for eating and teething.
Once baby is old enough to drink water from his own cup, parents will be looking for one that’s glass or stainless steel rather than plastic. These Tabor Place sippy cups are amazing for babies and toddlers for many reasons: silicone coating so they don’t break, leak-proof since water only comes out if baby sucks, and handles for baby to hold. And when you put on the cap, it looks just like a penguin ;0
5. Organic Cotton Rug/Play Mat
Unfortunately, regular carpets are nearly always coated in anti-moth sprays (insecticides), fabric protectants, flame retardants, and more…So an organic cotton rug for baby’s bedroom is a cozy, helpful addition to their non-toxic lifestyle. I love the brand Lorena Canals for their whimsical, creative prints.
Going into winter, outerwear is just beginning to be necessary. These bonnets keep baby’s head warm all winter long since they fully cover the ears. I also happen to have a weak spot for vintage style, and I think that babies in bonnets are just too adorable for words! The more bonnets, the better.
7. Hooded Towel from Burt’s Bees Organics
Organic cotton is preferred by some crunchy parents- see my post here for some popular brands and reviews on them! How sweet are these little hooded bath towels? The nicest thing about them is they don’t need to be swapped out every month, as one size will last a while!
If she got stuck with organic parents, baby has got to learn quickly about all those weird fruits and vegetables she’ll be loading up on! Luckily, this book makes it engaging for even small babies, while for older ones it’ll be a blast to find their favorite foods in the mix.
Natural, organically-inclined parents will probably want their baby’s mobility to develop at its own pace. One of the best ways to encourage proper upright, walking posture is by allowing baby’s feet to feel the ground through a soft-sole shoe. These leather ones are so classic!
Above are 10 ideas of practical baby gifts geared toward the natural family! I hope that this helps to eliminate some confusion around what might get a “pass” by those picky parents.
