“Beauty empties” posts have always been my favorite type to read because they give a mini-review of so many products at once. Plus, my cynical heart liked knowing that the recommender actually finished it- that fortitude proved that it was really a favorite.
Of course, for our purposes, this is even better since every product in the lineup is non-toxic. These products will be nourishing to your skin, make you look and feel great, and won’t mess up your hormones in the process.
First up, a beautiful-smelling shampoo. I think we’ve been through 3 bottles already. This shampoo cleans better than other natural shampoos I’ve tried, and smells so nice. I haven’t tried any other products from the Evolvh line, but definitely look forward to seeing if they’re all this good!
2. Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Primer
This mascara was the first “clean beauty” mascara I’ve ever tried, and it made a loyalist of me! As clean beauty goes, this product is priced WELL at only $16.99. One end is a primer- which really does make a difference, though I didn’t always use it- and the other end is the mascara formula.
My main frustration with this is that it runs out quickly, which I assume is because the primer takes up space in the tube and displaces mascara formula. When I wear a very creamy foundation, the mascara also tends to smudge a little bit onto the skin under my eyes.
3. Ilia lipstick in Dress You Up
If I had to choose the #1 product I am most heartbroken to part with, it would be this beautiful lipstick. I even have some sentimental memories attached to this, such as wearing it my very first day of graduate school (quivering from nerves all the while)! It’s just the right flattering shade that livens you up, but doesn’t look like a shock of color. The formula, too, is fantastic- it’s strongly pigmented but does not feather throughout the day.
Confession: Even when the lipstick seemed like it was finished, I actually took it apart, and pulled out the color stick from inside the packaging tube. Well worthwhile, for I then discovered another half-inch or so of product!
4.Juice Beauty eyeshadow stick in Stone (no longer available at this link)
Unfortunately, I didn’t like this as much as I had hoped to. It took me about a year to get through it, and that was only because it actually kept cracking apart and I had to throw out the pieces. It went on really dry and cake-y, and was impossible to spread around my eyelids. The shade was pretty, though.
I would love to try the other scents of these! The soap itself is enjoyable to use- everybody in my family greatly enjoyed this! It’s a great texture, spreads and lathers just perfectly, and leaves you feeling exfoliated and fresh. Check, check, check, right?! As you can probably tell, the bottle was totally mutilated in an attempt to extract as much wash as possible- which speaks for itself, really!
6. True Botanicals Body Lotion
Oh, True Botanicals. Can you do no wrong?
This is far superior to any mainstream lotion I’ve tried. Its scent is beautifully citrusy and floral, and the moisture it lends is light and delicate. In combination– perfection.
Especially if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding and need to make sure every ingredient you use is squeaky, squeaky clean- be assured that this comes straight from the “Pregnancy” section in True Botanicals’ website. That’s the reason I bought it, too and is another huge plus. They’ve actually just begun selling “bundles” of products, which will get you a 10% discount. I would highly recommend the Mama Glow bundle, which comes with 3 super-safe moisturizing skin essentials. If you grab it now, you’ll also get an extra 20% off!
This also took me about a year to finish. I bought it as my primary attempt to switch to non-toxic foundations. It’s not a cheap foundation, so I assumed it would perform very well. Unfortunately looked slick and oily, even five minutes after applying. I tried various powders on top to set it and control the oiliness, but to no avail. I steeled myself to try it again for awhile recently, when my skin was a little drier. It was tolerable then, so I wore it occasionally when at home or not worried about how my skin looked- which was how I finished the product. Again, I do have oily skin, so for someone whose skin is on the drier side, it might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Let me know below if you’ve tried any of these- I would love to know what your impressions were!
