Reviews of Clean Beauty Products| Empties #2

Another quarter; another handful of clean beauty items to see the recycling bin! Here are my “drive-thru” quick reviews of popular nontoxic foundations, eyeshadows, lip products, etc.

RMS Beauty Launches “Un” Cover-Up Cream Foundation - Coveteur

Rms Un-Cover-Up Cream Foundation in 11

This foundation is very full coverage- the first swipe you put on your face really “paints” it. So I loved it for that- its easy to use just a little bit of product. But make sure the shade is a good match for your skin tone, or it will look patchy. Also, unlike the foundation I switched to now (more info to come!) this is one foundation that you really do feel on your face. You might feel sticky and tacky every time you touch your face.

eyeshadow Aneley

Aneley Loose Mineral Sparkle Eyeshadow in Opal

I was looking for a clean-beauty replacement for my Giorgio Armani white sparkle to put on the inner corners of the eyes. This is a loose powder, which means it’s a little bit messy. But the shimmery look that it gives is really striking, and being powdery also makes it easier to blend out. This one’s color and sparkle-intensity (you know what I mean!) are just right; when I don’t use this, I really miss it! Not sure you can see in the photo, this shadow got stuck inside the Rms foundation somehow. And try as I might, I could not separate them for the life of me!

aneley concealer

Aneley Natural Concealer Cream in Pure

This was finished before I could believe it- maybe there’s not a lot of product, or maybe I just use a lot of concealer. It’s creamy, goes on smoothly and is very hydrating. I think for someone with drier or flakey skin, this would be a perfect find. The coverage isn’t as full or concentrated as I usually like, so it needs a heavy hand if you want to build it up for more pigment. Looking at the ingredients list is thrilling in the best way- there are hardly any ingredients, and they’re all familiar, pronounceable, and utterly wholesome. (This product gets an EWG-approved rating, by the way).

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Luminous Lip Crayon, Laguna, Pink Mauve
Juice Beauty

Juice Beauty Luminous Lip Crayon in 24 Laguna/Pink Muave

This actually took 2 years for me to get through. The taste is a little bit off putting for some reason. Another strike against it for me was the color, it just didn’t suit me perfectly, so I usually wore it with a different shade of gloss over top. But the lasting power was pretty good, and it was hydrating.

816248020003 - RMS Beauty Tinted
RMS tinted un-powder

Rms Beauty Tinted Un-powder in Fair

I’ve aways been a big powder girl, and finding out that talc often contains asbestos really scared me. You literally breathe in clouds of it when you apply, especially using a fluffy brush like I was doing.

I switched over to clean beauty slowly, so it’s been very few, select products at a steady pace. This was the first “clean” setting powder I’ve used. It works fine, and sets makeup while reducing shininess. I like that it doesn’t look cake-y. But when I looked it up on EWG Skin Deep, I was really surprised that it has a rating of a 4. So I guess the moral of the story is that clean brands can’t be universally trusted. Rms does a great job with so many of their products, but I won’t be buying this powder again.

Ere perez Chamomile Eyeshadow Palette in Pretty

Ere Perez Chamomile Eye Palette - Pretty. Zoom in on product.
Ere Perez

I love this brand- I enjoyed using their Oat Milk Cream foundation last year, as well. Look at the packaging of this pallete- it’s so sleek and natural looking, and it’s small and thin so it’s easy to fit in any makeup bag or when traveling. Maybe it’s my personal negligence- I wear everything hard, from shoes to hats- but this was constantly cracking. I hit pan on a couple shades rightfully, from using them constantly. But plenty of product was also lost to sad accidents where the compact imploded all over the bathroom floor (yes, this happened on numerous occasions with different color casualties each time). Now it just has a little bit of purple left, which I try to use but don’t particularly enjoy. I hope you’ll allow me to proclaim this product empty, then.

Rosewater Lipstick – Kosas Weightless Lip Color – Kosas Cosmetics
Kosas Rosewater Lipstick

Kosas lipstick in Rosewater:

This product was gushed about last time, too- and I think the fact that I’ve been through another tube in the interim just demonstrates its perfection. Should I do a separate review just on these lipsticks? There’s so much good to say about them in terms of color, creaminess/hydration, and length of wear. The packaging is beautiful, too, and the magnetic closure is a nice touch! My toddler likes to make an activity out of snapping it open and shut, and I allow it for the sake of fine-motor skills. No lipstick has been harmed in the process- so far 😉

Jojoba oil

I’ve been using jojoba oil as makeup remover for over 2 years now. It’s not fancy, branded, or fragranced, but I’m fine with it. I usually use the Trader Joe’s brand, but decided to try this one because it was organic and higher-quality, and I notice a slight difference! The smell on this one is a bit “clearer,” for lack of a better word. If you’re like me and like to find ways to make natural living simple and streamlined, join me in using jojoba and coconut oils as makeup removers/face washes! Years in here, and no complaints (besides that it makes your makeup suds stick to the bathroom sink, so you’ll need to wipe the gunk out every so often. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve ever experienced this).

Please let me know if you’ve tried any of these, or if you are interested in trying and have any questions!
